G’day Sydney (and visitors!)
Well, it’s nearly the end of the year, and I thought it might be worth looking back at the year that was! Rather than simply talk about the highlights of 2010 though, I thought we could look back at the year in videos!
Kicking off the year, quite literally, was last year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks!
Following almost directly on from the New Year celebrations was the Sydney Festival, and the 2011 edition is just around the corner, so to get you excited remind yourself how great last year’s festival was:
Sydney certainly kept the party going after the festival with 2010 also seeing plenty of fantastic musicians visit the city – including Lady Gaga and more recently U2 – but I thought I’d highlight this fan video from ACDC’s performance in Sydney towards the beginning of the year:
Sydney is definitely a beautiful city, but the Vivid festival certainly casts the city in a new light – pun intended!
A year in Sydney wouldn’t be complete without the annual Royale Easter Show. There was plenty to see and do at this year’s event, and to remind yourself of all the highlights simply watch the following video. Remember, Christmas is soon but next Easter isn’t far away!
Every two years Sydney gets to play host to the Biennale, a fantastic art show that brings together the best artists from Sydney and abroad. Not only was 2010’s show full of fantastic works, it once again showed off Sydney’s best galleries and breathtaking Cockatoo Island:
While it is a yearly event, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras never fails to disappoint, and returned in 2010 full of colour and energy:
As part of the Mardi Gras, Sydney was also visited by Spencer Tunick in 2010, leading to a rather unique display on the Opera House steps!
Just the other month Sydney hosted the Crave International Food Festival, and yet another Breakfast on the Bridge. To see all the work that goes into covering the Sydney Harbour Bridge in grass, and to see all the picnickers – including myself! – enjoying the event, watch this amazing time lapse video:
Since then we’ve had Oprah’s visit, more amazing concerts and shows, and all of the Christmas and end of year celebrations – what an amazing year it has been? What were your highlights? Let us know in the comments below – including anything you’re looking forward to in 2011!
Until next time,
~ SydneySider
